Features of the Observatory

Among the many exhibits the Griffith Park Observatory offers, is the Foucault Pendulum. One of the observatory's first, the pendulum was designed to demonstrate the rotation of the Earth. As you watch it, the pendulum slowly moves with the Earth's rotation, knocking blocks down for every hour that goes by. Other major exhibits include the "Cosmic Connection," "Gunther Depths of Space," "Edge of Space Mezzanine," "Ahmanson Hall of Sky," and the "Wilder Hall of the Eye." Aside from exhibits, the observatory also has a newly renovated, 300-seat planetarium, a 12-inch Zeiss refracting telescope, and Coelostat and Solar telescopes that bring in images of the sun.
