Getty Center

Page history last edited by Chris 3 years, 2 months ago

The Getty Center is far more than just the The J. Paul Getty Museum, which houses European paintings, drawings, sculpture, illuminated manuscripts, decorative arts, and European and American photographs.  The Center also includes a beautiful central garden designed by renowned artist Robert Irwin. The garden and surrounding green space include a natural ravine walkway that leads from the top of the garden to a water feature at the bottom.

The Getty Center offers a special kids exhibits with which kids can interact, and areas to walk about. We regularly take our kids for the morning or afternoon and let them play on the large grassy area next to the gardens. There are several cafes around the grounds and the Getty regularly sponsors free lectures, concerts, and readings. You can check the schedule.

Admission to the Center (and most events) is free, although parking is $10. There is a fun (for kids) tram ride from the parking area up the mountain to the Center.
